AI & Emerging Technologies characterised my 22 Jan 2025 in Davos, with of course always a focus on DLT.
β I attended a panel discussion at the Davos Innovation Week on Transforming industries & shaping the future: AI, 3D, Metaverse, Robotics and Emerging Technologies. I attended discussions at the AI House Davos, and attended the exclusive Davos Web3 Roundtable.
π΅ DLT can provide inclusive digital sovereignty, allowing communities to participate in decision-making processes through low-cost blockchain networks; can offer decentralised Identity systems respectful of privacy and cultural assets; can reward sustainable actions; onchain AI can mitigate sovereignty / data / AI models concerns.
π΅ Essential to promote technological capacity (hardware β energy / internet - and software), and education (including of developers / ethical training), upskilling and reskilling programs, leveraging public / private partnerships β to achieve a broader Web3 education focused on decentralised technologies and metaverse developments.
π΅Proper governance is key to mitigate risks of centralised technologies. Digital projects need broad representations (governments, industry, academia, marginalised groups) to ensure consideration of local ethical norms and specific socio-economic contexts. International organisations such as UN can facilitate the collaboration and the oversight.
π΅ Crucial to promote awareness, and the understanding of the limitations of digital technologies such as AI. Tech must remain a tool in full control of humans. Data colonisation and tech imperialism can become social dividing forces. Take AI: The feed is key (what is exactly fed?), as are big data (which are the data?) and IoT (where?).
π΅ In practice, leave behind buzzwords such as AI and focus on the very specific technology at stake. Any daily and specific application encapsulates all related risks and opportunities. Understand them, mitigate them, to amplify sustainable, sovereign, outcomes, and support an implementation process in sync and compatible with a digestible societal change.
