Artificial Intelligence (AI): 9 Q&A (August 2024)

🔥 What's AI? It is a (tech) tool, applicable to everything that can be digitalised and subject to a Stochastic process

🔥 Can it be ignored? No. It is irreversible within a tech-based society

🔥 Can it be used for the bad? Yes, intentionally (“use hammer to beat a person”), or by ignorance (“use hammer to clean a window”)

🔥 Can it be used for the good? Yes, by using it intelligently, in full control and awareness of its possibilities & limitations, to improve the well-being of society, by alleviating, and performing more efficiently, a range of human tasks across the disciplines, exponentially advancing research, democratising access to knowledge

🔥 What if used inattentively? it can blur humans, obfuscate their intelligence, inhibit their creativity. It may disrupt the economic structure, by affecting professions at a pace higher than the society can adapt to. It may generate greater injustice between advanced and developing nations (holding of hardware) or between dominant and oppressed classes (attentive vs inattentive use). It may create ethical & reg grey zones (misuse of privacy, and IP)

🔥 How to use it attentively? By knowing its limitations. By being a stochastic process that creates or predicts probable outcomes directly linked to past and present information, which is self-fed over time, by the way, the use of AI reinforces the past, rather than truly generating the future. The ability to imagine and generate something linked to past and present information in a very weak probabilistic way, is the human realm. The history that counts, is the history of surprises, not the history of ‘I know what will happen’. Humans decide informed by the past and present, but driven by a forward-looking or future design. AI does not develop brand new designs and concepts or analyses, but repeat those it finds

🔥 How should we go about it? Make sure that AI turns into and stay a positive tool for the society. This is a significant governance challenge, requiring regulation to set guardrails and politics to promote an education of awareness of the possibilities and limitations of AI, limit inequalities between classes and nations, and steering a viable, non-overly-disrupting, economic transformation

🔥 In concrete terms? The AI challenge should be tackled at the micro level of daily actions, addressing real current problem. Any daily application encapsulates all related risks and opportunities. It is enough to be sensitive about it. Current concrete risks include classes-bias, discrimination, AI-generated disinformation, violation of (IP) rights

🔥 Is Finance bound to be a particularly affected industry? Yes, digits being the main handled ware. E.g., client-facing applications, products, complains, claims, and credit processes, customer experience & onboarding. But mind above
